We tried to cancel our three week vacation to Florida near the parks, for all of our daughters' and their families. When I first called VRBO on Mar.
1st, I was told they were "highly encouraging " their homeowners to refund ALL funds that had been paid. Well that was a joke. When we finally reached the homeowner, it was like pulling teeth. He at first offered a 20% refund, but our daughters kept insisting that a refund of all the money since the coronavirus was beyond anybody's control.
Then after a week he did refund a little less than 50% of the funds. Any contact with VRBO was futile - either e-mail, phone calls with over two hour wait times. As others are stating in their posts, we will definitely be letting everyone we know personally and through social media, of the disrespectful business practices of VRBO and HomeAway.com, since they are both under the same banner of ownership. If anyone has stock in these companies, you should think twice about your future investment.
We have worked through VRBO the last couple of years and had no MAJOR problems, but this is inexcusable.
Will definitely be using Airbnb in the future. A friend got 100 % of their money refunded from Airbnb.
User's recommendation: Avoid VRBO/HomeAway at all cosots.
